The Reluctant Spoonie is a lifestyle blog for those who have been newly diagnosed with a chronic illness to help them incorporate their long-term condition into their daily lives.
You will find videos and articles on a wide range of topics to help you develop your new identity as a person with a chronic illness or disability. 100% of the media produced by The Reluctant Spoonie has been created by someone with a chronic illness or disability.
The Reluctant Spoonie is also currently producing a series of eBooks about living with specific chronic conditions. The first book in this series, The Reluctant Spoonie’s Guide to Living with POTS is out now on Amazon Kindle here or as an instant PDF download here.
The Reluctant Spoonie was founded by K W Warburton in 2018 when she was looking for information about living with a chronic illness.
“I was struggling to define myself now that I had a long-term illness. I felt as if the person who I once was had disappeared. I was complaining to one of my doctors about not being able to do the physically demanding lab-work that I had been trained for. At the time, I could only leave the house once or twice a week. I felt as if I was wasting my life and talent. They suggested that I should start a blog as my brain would pickle if I continued to do nothing all day. I’d had a few posts published on The Mighty about living with POTS and had a bunch more in my notebook, so I decided to start my own blog centred around chronic illness awareness. I wanted to use my limited energy to create something meaningful and to help those who were also struggling to define themselves now they had a chronic illness.”
We believe that kindness towards ourselves and others is the cornerstone of healing and managing a long-term health condition.
We believe by sharing our experiences of chronic illness and working together, we will make our community stronger.
We believe that everyone has something of value to contribute to the chronic illness community. We are committed to sharing stories from those who are currently underrepresented in the chronic illness community such as LGBTQIA+, Black, non-binary and male creators.
- To help those newly diagnosed with a chronic illness feel less alone
- To showcase the wealth of talent within the chronic illness community
